The story of oysters as a shellfish with aphrodisiac properties has been known since ancient times, when it was tasted with pleasure at the Renaissance banquets of the Dubrovnik aristocracy. The legend of the magical characteristics of the shells was not a secret not for Austrian emperors who frequently enjoyed it on their menus. Gastro experts mentioned that oysters are best served freshly opened with some lemon juice.
Oysters are fullest and most delicious in March, with the celebration of the feast of St. Joseph. Organized by the Tourist Board, Peljesac wine makers and Mali Ston shellfishers on
18th of March 2017. on the waterfront in Mali Ston. oyster tasting with selected wines from Peljesac cellars,  performances from folklore unions and klape, and professional conferences on the cultivation and transport of shells.
